Job interview role play

The Job Interview - Video Role Play for your laptop

Is it for you?

- Are you helping people get jobs and coaching them in handling job interview questions?
- Are you always seeking to offer a higher level of service?
- Do you want to eliminate some of the initial problems with live role playing?

If your answers are yes, then you will want to consider this new and easy to use progamme.

The key issue in helping people be successful in the job seeking process is to build up their competence in handling interviews. It would be wrong to pretend that a good CV on its own, will help them get employment. So they need to be competent in answering all those difficult interview questions.

However, helping people respond to interview questions needs some thought if you are going to increase the chance of success here. Sure, you can work through question lists and get then to respond to your selection, but this does lack crunch! If you work in outplacement, redundancy situations, careers advice or education, this programme can help you help your clients even more!

Having an interviewer face them on a screen brings a new dimension to your approach and our experience in using on-screen role plays is that it can actually be quite stessful for people. Just like the real thing! So here is your chance to go the extra mile for your clients.

With this programme, you control the questions.

This is how the screens look after setting up. The interviewer appears on the left hand screen(data projector or second monitor) and the right screen runs on the PC or Laptop. You simply select a question off the full scrolling script, having selected a person to answer the next question. You need to stress that as soon as the interviewer stops speaking, they must answer.

And the good news is that you can try it out for nothing!

What is it?

"Tell me...." is a job interview role play designed to be run from a laptop, or PC, ideally, with a data projector.

It is aimed to increase the learning speed of people wanting to improve their interview skills and to therefore increase their chances of employment.

We also believe it will offer a more competitive edge to the more forward looking consultancies and organisation who use it.

It is therefore suitable for helping anyone who is looking for:
- Their first job. e.g. graduates
- Another job - currently employed or redundant

Typical users, who want to increase the level of job seeker assistance, will be outplacment consultancies, career advice organisations, universities, colleges and schools.

Note: we have also developed a separate version of this just for School Leavers (128 questions)

It allows the tutor to instantly select from a range of questions, having asked a group member to respond immediately the question ends. Coaching can then be given and the question repeated to build up their skill level. Because therer is a third part present (the video interviewer), there are no issues with the Tutor having to role play the questions, or him or her, having to set up role plays with other group members. This therefore brings a level of relaism into this aspect of job seeking.

It also aims to eliminate all the pitfalls of live role plays, which need very experienced trainers and role players to work effectively. Live role plays are also time consuming to set up.

It should be stressed that while a good CV will get an interview, it will not normally get anyone a job. Hence the importance of sound preparation for this vital interview in a realistic way.

We produced our first dual screen video role play in 1995 and therefore have unique experience in developing this approach to training.

What does it offer?

A choice of 400 questions covering graduate and adult job interviews. Any clip can be immediately selected and played.

How does it work?

The full script runs on the laptop screen for quick question selection and the video appears on the projector screen. A small preview screen is available to view the questions on a single screen before using the programme with a group.

In addition, for older laptops, it is possible to use a "cleaned up" single screen video which uses a simple number based selection bar.

Above - Dual screen showing main features. A small preview screen is also available for familiarisation,if a projector is not connected.

Below - Video screen on data projector can also show a participant's name, or group names can be randomly selected from a list.

For 1:1 coaching, or for using with older laptops that can only be used in "mirror" mode, a single screen option is also available, as shown below.

Features:
1. Screen exit button
2. Volume controls
3. Scrolling list of question numbers - can be referenced from printed list.
Instant repeat is also available using key presses.

But we are already helping people with handling questions!

Of course you are!

We are not even suggesting how interview questions should be answered, but we do believe this approach will enhance your coaching effectiveness, as well as giving clients the impression that you are striving to deliver help in the best possible way.

Illegal and badly worded questions

A small number of questions are unfair/discriminatory/illegal or simply need a better response e.g. closed questions. They are marked in the script, as not all interviewers are angels!
